Regarding the death of this community, and in response to some other things. [Jul. 5th, 2004|02:12 pm]

Hello, all. I owe this community an apology and a solution.

I initally created this community because I thought it would be a fun idea that ought to be incarnated. I feel I have a good critic's eye and I enjoy looking at/picking apart art. I got a few people whom I know personally to help run it, because I knew I wasn't going to really have the time to constantly moderate it. However, they ended up being just as, if not more, busy than I was.

Some people have questioned the "credentials" of the mods. Though I feel I have a good eye, my own art is really just a background hobby to me. I draw all the time (mostly anime) and paint and use papier meche on occasion, but it doesn't take the foreground in my life, and I'm pretty rusty with most mediums. So my intent was to build this because I thought it should exist and then let it fall into the hands of the more experienced, proactive members.

I apologize for not sticking around to encourage voting and posting... basically letting this community fall to shit.

Therefore... *suspense*

In comments to this post, please nominate one or two members of this community to take over moderation. You may nominate yourself; in fact, I encourage it. When I get enough responses to this post, I'll set up a poll and we can vote for a new Fearless (and Preferably More Devoted) Leader. Sound fair?

Ok, is it just me, or does this community suck the big black cock of death?
I mean, it was an awesome idea to begin a community, but the mods let it go to shit.
Recent applications have barely any comments, or none for a while.
I was working on getting three pieces, becuase I only had one with lots of detail and precision (my art is more expressive).
But after finishing the second, I just said 'to hell with it"....

(please pardon the cross-post)

Anyone have any ideas on how to remove acrylic varnish from a canvas? I have heard that isopropyl alcohol is a big no-no. I'm going to experiment with a few things today and see what happens. Although if anyone can save me hours of agony I'd sure appreciate it.
;)

I haven't been able to keep up. And I've certainly not drawn anything in a while. Let's say this marks the beginning of the end of a long dry spell.

Ok, I haven't been able to devote much time to this community lately... or any lj at all for that matter... but I'm back, so I thought I'd post a piece of art that I enjoy.

I AM NOT CLAIMING I MADE THIS, I JUST REALLY LIKE IT SO DON'T THROW A HISSY FIT THAT THIS ISN'T MY WORK. JUST BECAUSE I'M NOT AN ARTIST MYSELF, DOESN'T MEAN I CAN'T APPRECIATE IT.

That being said... here it is.

I really like this one, but all I can tell you about it is that it's painted by Franz von Stuck... if you don't know what a sphinx is... get a dictionary. Yeh, I really like the use of red and shadow. Plus the piece itself seems to evoke some stirring emotions... is the kiss of the sphinx a reward, or a death sentence? Notice how her claws are wrapped around his waist... yeh I REALLY like this one.
